SaniTap was founded as an ‘Impact Business’. The founders believe in the power of applying business based approaches – innovation, R&D, commercialisation, efficient supply chains and economic efficiency to address global issues which are normally left to charities, NGOs and governmental bodies.

The founders build Impact Businesses that help lift people out of poverty, protect the environment and improve health.

The Founders of SaniTap are both innovative and award-winning social entrepreneurs.  They seek to develop scalable solutions to the challenges caused by climate change in vulnerable communities.  Between them they have over 60 years of experience, working with like-minded organisations and building novel business models to ensure sustainability.

Our Characteristics

impact

We do what we do because we want to affect change. We want to see lives improved; the environment protected; health enhanced; and livelihoods created. And we want to see impact at scale.

Technology

Technology needs to be durable and proven to work under tough conditions.
Where we can, we leap-frog outdated solutions and introduce novel technologies.

sustainability

We seek lasting impact through development of sustainable business models and community engagement

Ethics and values

Our governance, operations, leadership and collaborations are to high ethical standards and values.  We don’t tolerate anything less.  We are open to scrutiny.

Climate adaptation

Adapting to climate change means taking action to prepare for and adjust to actual, or expected, future climate.  We build this into our work and thinking.  We develop best practice models

Climate Mitigation

We need act now.  Mitigation addresses the root causes of climate change.  Our projects and initiatives aim to immediately reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Equality

We believe in the equality of all humans.

Innovation

Innovation in business models and financing  is as important as the products and services we develop.

collaboration

Achieving scale requires collaboration.  This includes resources, finance, time, knowledge and information.  Increased scale achieves greater impact. Collaboration underpins it all.

Building climate resilience

We enable communities’ climate resilience: building ability to prepare for, recover from, and adapt to expected climate change impacts.

Integrity

We are proud of the quality and integrity of our products and services and also the way we work.

What being an Impact Business means to us

SaniTap is an Impact Venture. To us, this means that we exclusively engage in business activities that deliver tangible social and/or environmental impact – yet also deliver healthy financial returns. The latter is important, not to maximise shareholder revenue, but because only profitable ventures are scaleable or replicable – and that’s what will further multiply our impact.  In this way, ‘value’ is maximised – across all stakeholders.

Other descriptions are helpful – such as ‘Triple-Bottom-Line business’ (Social, Environmental and Financial measures of success) and ‘Triple-P business’ (Profit, People, Planet) and they all convey similar ideas and the intended trajectory of an enterprise.

We prefer using the term Impact Venture or Impact Business. We use commercial, business approaches, our objectives and values mark us out as far more than just a business: it’s the impact that drives us.

From this follows that we carefully measure and report on the social and environmental performance of our activities – to ensure transparency and accountability, but also to provide the data and insights to continually improve the way we operate.

As an Impact Venture we work with investors and philanthropists alike and look to deploy a wide range of financing models. Depending on the application, this could include results-based-financing, refundable grants, TA, equity or commercial loans (i.e. experimental innovation is best financed by grants; but scaling up validated profitable business models by commercial funding).
